How to use Bet365 abroad: access your account in 3 steps (guide)

Bet365 is region-locked, so you can’t access it outside the UK without a VPN. If you want to use your Bet365 account abroad and start gambling in a couple of minutes, our guide can help.

With a secure VPN, you’ll be assigned a UK-based IP address – that means you can open Bet365 from anywhere in the world and the service assumes you’re in the UK.

We do not condone betting from countries where doing so is forbidden. Always consult your betting company's terms of service. We cannot be held responsible if your account is affected due to VPN use. Bet responsibly.

Which VPNs work with Bet365?

Why you can trust GadgetMouse: Our content is written by a team of humans and we refuse to use AI. Plus, we own (and use) every VPN that we write about. For more details, see our editorial policy.

Walkthrough: using a VPN to access Bet365

At a glance: To use Bet365 abroad, download a recommended VPN, sign in to your account, connect to a UK server and then refresh the service.

1. Download a VPN you can trust

To place bets abroad without any issues, you need a trusted VPN. Choosing well means you’ll be blessed with software that’s easy to use and secure – it won’t share your private details to third parties or your ISP (internet service provider).

Out of the most well-known VPNs, we like ExpressVPN as it’s cheap and lets you use up to 5 devices at one time. Shop around and see what works best for you.

2. Sign in to your VPN

Once you’ve opened your account with a VPN and downloaded the software, sign in with your email/username and password. Make your password unique to your VPN account.

VPN providers have different rules when it comes to accessing your account from different gadgets at the same time. Some are strict on this, so check their terms. Others are a little more flexible – Ivacy, for example, supports 10 users on a single account.

3. Connect to a server for Bet365

Bet365 is designed with a UK userbase in mind, so you need to connect to a VPN server based in the UK.

To do this using ExpressVPN, open the app, tap the More icon and use the search box to enter a UK location. We’ve used UK – Docklands and had good results. Then, click the Power icon to connect and wait for the app to turn green.

Using ExpressVPN to unlock Bet365

Above, we’ve loaded Bet365 on desktop by connecting to a UK – Docklands VPN server. This means that, although we’re logging in from the US, the Bet365 website thinks we’re logging in from abroad. In other words, we’ve unlocked the entire site in just a couple of clicks.

How to fix Bet365 errors

If the Bet365 website knows that you’re trying to use it from a restricted region, it’ll block you. Certain countries limit access to Bet365 because of licensing laws, or rules in that country that discourage online gambling. I’ve noticed that the same applies to other providers including BetMGM, Sky Bet and Betfair.

An error message on the Bet365 website explains: “Our software detects that you may be attempting to access the website from a restricted territory. If you believe that this detection has occurred in error then please contact us for assistance.”

See our list of troubleshooting tips below so you can regain access to Bet365:

1. Update your VPN

If your VPN doesn’t let you use Bet365 at the moment, make sure you’re using the latest version. I say that because the VPN developers might have identified a problem in an old version and patched it with an update. In other words, check your VPN settings.

On a PC, load up your VPN and then navigate to Settings or Options. Our team has seen some VPNs that display a message on the start screen about updates. Here’s a screenshot from ExpressVPN, for example:

ExpressVPN update for Bet365

Clicking Update will most likely take you to the VPN provider’s website.

If you’re using an Android gadget, load up the Google Play store and tap your profile in the top-right corner. Choose Manage apps and device, then Update or Update all. If you click on your VPN from that screen, you’ll see details on what’s new.

On an iPhone, open the Apple App Store and tap your user profile in the top-right corner of the screen.

2. Use a different VPN server with Bet365

You might be having issues because a specific VPN server has become temporarily unavailable or slower than usual. This will affect your experience when placing bets through the Bet365 website or app.

Our research shows that the best VPNs have multiple servers per country. ExpressVPN has a ‘UK – Docklands’ server, along with alternatives in East London and the Midlands. Swap between them to find out which one works best for you.

Use the 'Current location' button on ExpressVPN to change the server used with Bet365

Try disconnecting from the current server that you’re using.

Precise steps will vary depending on your VPN, but ExpressVPN users can select the three dots icon to see a list of alternative servers in the same country. You can also favourite the server (use the Star icon) that works best for you.

3. Reach out to your VPN support team

Our recommended providers all have teams that deal with problems you’re having. I’ve used Ivacy multiple times in the past and they continue to provide a stellar service.

From a computer, head to your provider’s website and find the Support or Contact us pages. Some VPNs offer a live chat service for members.

Our table data: We recorded the time it took to connect with a human after selecting 'Start chat.' To calculate an average, three wait times were logged on a single day at 13:00 BST, 18:00 BST and 21:00 BST.

4. Completely restart your VPN

The ‘off and on again’ trick often works with computer problems and the same goes with VPNs. Whether you’re on a PC, smartphone or tablet, restart your device and load up your VPN again.

If that doesn’t work, delete and reinstall it. Then, load up your VPN and see if it lets you place bets through Bet365.

5. Test your internet connection

The problem might be with your own internet connection rather than your VPN.

Disconnect from your wi-fi network and reconnect. Try and run your VPN once again. You can also go a step further and restart your internet router. Speeds of 5-10Mbps should be enough, but you might prefer over 20Mbps if you’re streaming or gaming.

Run an internet speed test to see if a poor connection is affecting Bet365

Run a free download speed tool and compare the results alongside your ISP’s ‘minimum guaranteed speed’ promise. Contact your ISP if your connection is unstable outside of VPN use.

More Bet365 fixes:

Are your details being shared due to a DNS leak? A broken VPN won’t conceal your actual IP address and location while accessing Bet365. To test if your VPN is working as it should, disable it and navigate to the IP Address Lookup tool. Note your current IP address. Then, activate your VPN and rerun the test – if you aren’t assigned a new IP and location, your VPN is faulty.

Clear cache and cookies from your internet browser On Google Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data. On Safari, go to Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.

Check that you’ve entered your VPN username and password correctly Double-check your login credentials. If you can’t remember your details, choose the ‘Forgot’ option on your VPN provider’s website so you get a reset link sent to your inbox.

Check that the VPN servers are active If you can’t connect to a server, your provider might be experiencing an outage. The best providers are transparent about this and actively update their server status online – NordVPN set a good example.

Make sure your firewall isn’t blocking your VPN or Bet365 If you’re experiencing issues on desktop, make sure your VPN is mentioned in the ‘Allow’ list. On Windows, head to open Windows Security > Allow an app through the firewall. On Mac, try System Settings > Network > Firewall.

Check that your firewall isn't blocking your VPN and therefore Bet365

Check if your web browser needs updating Your current web browser version might be incompatible with your browser-based VPN. Assuming you’ve updated your VPN, make sure you update your browser as well. On Chrome, for example, you would go to Settings > About Chrome.

Make sure you’re not overworking your VPN If you’re streaming, gaming and using social media at the same time, your VPN might struggle to keep up. I suggest you close a couple of apps to test if doing so has a noticeable impact.
